Home      Tinnitus

Ahh, Tinnitus, it's made me all that I am today!  Well, not quite.  but I will have more things to say about the subject.  Here are some links to cool sites and products that I recommend.

SENSGARD
SensGard is different from any of the typical earplugs I've used since before I can remember.  It works using some kind of vacuum isolation chambers, and compared to earplugs, noise canceling headsets and the like, I prefer the way they sound.  If you're a musician, sensitive to moderate or loud sounds, or simply someone who wants to protect your hearing, I recommend that you check these out.  They run 20-30 bucks or so, and are well worth it.  Click HERE to visit their Website.

Musician's Ear Plugs.

These little beauties are a real advancement in hearing protection for musicians.
So many players have told me that they won't use earplugs because it dampens the sound too much.  No more.  These allow some mid and high frequencies to pass through, resulting in a clearer, cleaner sound, while still offering protection from the high decibels that can damage anyone's hearing over time.  They must be form fitted by a professional, but the small cost is well worth it.  Click HERE for more.  For the ultimate protection, get and use form-fitted earplugs.  Any hearing aid clinic can make them for you.  Note: Many pros now use 'personal monitors' which are custom earplugs containing tiny speakers that replace onstage monitors. Glad to see it!

Perfect Hearing?  I had it.  I lost it.

I was 19 and in the Army (a whole story unto itself) when I was ordered to remove my earplugs and run through a course that required me to fire 85 rounds.  That was it.  My hearing was damaged, and I've had both a hearing recruitment (sensitivity to loud sounds) and hearing loss since then.  Did I mention tinnitus?  That ringing in my ears has been a constant companion.  I've forgiven the dimwits who sent me on that little errand, and I've also learned to live with my particular gift.  The moral is-- protect your hearing, you can't get it back when it's gone.
