WHY WEST VIRGINIA?
I spent many happy years in North Central West Virginia, during which time I wrote Stealing Margo. With its history, beauty, and warm character of its people, I couldn't think of a better setting for this book than "Almost Heaven!"
Back Cover:
When Margo Cappolini is abducted by a West Virginia fan, she is drawn back into her unfinished life as an 80's rock singer- a brooding storm of rock music, insatiable characters, and a castaway daughter she has never known. Stealing Margo is your all-access, backstage pass to Almost Heaven, you'll never know what's next!
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
In Stealing Margo, I began writing a female adventure based upon an 80’s rock singer and a well-meaning backwoods fan. But when the story began to unfold, I found myself entering a world of surreal landscapes and heart-stopping emotions. Margo’s story takes us behind the theater curtain, past the backstage door into worlds unspoken, and for the present, unseen . As you
turn the pages, may you discover your own story in Stealing
Margo.
What readers say about Stealing Margo:
"This is one of those unusual books that walked right in to my heart and made itself to home; it's going to stay with me for a long time." T. L. Patrick, Wordman's Story View, Cleveland, OH
"This book is excellent & easy to read. The phrasing, in particular, is amazing. The author paints a picture in your mind with one phrase - great writing! The story line is multi-layered & unexpected- thus very original & creative. Kept my interest. The author's experience in the rock & roll world of the 80's adds the the realism & believability of the story. I felt like I was onstage in front of that audience with Margo.
A good rock & roll adventure with a lot of heart, indeed!"
B. Farrer, Paradise, CA
"I enjoyed this book every bit as much as Chad's other book "Smoking Jimi". Anyone who has ever played music for a living would love this book. Chad's combination of clever wordplay and "insider speak" concerning musicianship and the music business make for a very compelling read. Beside that, this book has a good bit of "emotional depth" and explores some very serious issues. Parts of this book are quite romantic as well :-)
"Personally, I LOVED the fact that Margo's father found solitude and comfort listening to Steppenwolf, as I still do after 40 years (they have been one of my favorite bands since I was 9 years old!). I also liked the fact that one of the pivotal chapters of the book took place in Nashville, my home town.
I hope Chad Peery keeps writing books like this. He is an EXCEPTIONAL new talent who deserves to be very successful."
John, Nashville, TN.
"I like the character Margo, I found her to be a
woman I could identify with. She is smart, strong, and makes the same
kinds of foolish mistakes we've all made. The plot is quite clever,
and I enjoyed never being able to guess what came next. The writing is
very good, especially the music descriptions and uses of color."
Linda, Red Bluff, CA
"I loved your book. Thanks for bringing me back to the 80's, and most especially, thanks for portraying West Virginia as the beautiful state that it is!"
Paula, Charleston, WV.
"As a daughter who knows nothing about her birth mother, I was touched by Margo and Ember. I recommend this book not just for its good story line, but also for shedding light on the plight of people victimized by black market adoptions. It was done with kindness and sincerity."
